Coral Gables Television Wins First Emmy Award

Coral Gables Television (CGTV), the City of Coral Gables’ public, educational, and governmental access channel, was awarded a Suncoast Regional Emmy award by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. The award was presented to CGTV reporter and producer Daiana Rocha at the 41st annual regional Emmy Awards held on December 2 in Orlando for the original production of “Embracing Autism: A Coral Gables Story.”

There were 27 entries in the Societal Concerns category, and CGTV was one of nine winners in this award category. This is the first Emmy received by the City of Coral Gables. CGTV was nominated for an Emmy in two previous occasions.

“The fact that our own CGTV won an Emmy about this important issue raises awareness not only about autism but about the City’s sincere commitment to creating an inclusive community,” said City Manager Cathy Swanson-Rivenbark.

“We are so proud of our first Emmy win, which is dedicated to the entire team of reporters, editors and producers who work so diligently to produce top quality television productions for our Coral Gables viewing audience,” said Public Affairs Manager Maria Rosa Higgins Fallon.

The awarded 28-minute production recounts the remarkable story about the hardships of living with autism, as told by people and families who are directly affected by this syndrome. The story not only exposes the problem but also presents solutions taken by the City of Coral Gables to integrate and give individuals with autism a meaningful life. The Emmy award was presented to the Coral Gables City Commission at the December 5th Commission meeting.

Coral Gables Television, the ultimate source for Coral Gables news and information, can be viewed on Channel 77 in Comcast, Channel 99 in AT&T U-verse, and on livestream at www.coralgables.com.
